History

Roy Mooney Pearl Harbor survivor.

I recently had the pleasure of spending a few hours in the
home of Mr and Mrs Mooney and enjoyed many stories from
his life. Mr. Mooney served in the 19th United States Army
Infantry at Schofield Barracks, company C Oahu, Territory of
Hawaii from November 2, 1940 - February 20, 1943.
Mr Mooney writes in his book, "Images from Pearl Harbor".

"On Sunday morning December 7, 1941 several of us were in
the mess hall on the first floor when we first heard the
bombing. We then rushed up to our bunk area on the third
floor facing toward Wheeler Field. We got there in time to see
most of the planes with the Red Rising Sun on the wings
flying over, the 21st infantry barracks. The planes were firing
their machine guns on the top of the barracks with bullets
ricocheting all over the area. I have thought many times, "what
a wonder that none of us were hit." We kept saying to each
other,
"THE JAPS ARE HERE"!"
Mr. Mooney is a delightful man at the age of
87, with a world of experiences. Pictured here
demonstrating the,
"rainbow solute".
